Benin Energy Minister at NDF

The Minister of Energy of Benin, the honourable Mr Dona Jean-Claude HOUSSOU, visited the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) in Helsinki

The purpose of the meeting was to take stock of the long and fruitful collaboration between NDF and Benin and to discuss potential new opportunities. Also the Ambassador of Benin to Finland, H.E. Eusébe AGBANGLA, and Jussi NUMMELIN and Minna NIEMI from the West and Central Africa Team at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, also participated in the discussions.

NDF has financed six projects with Benin and provided a total of 25 million euro in financing during the past 23 years.  Four of these projects have strong linkages to the energy sector. One of these projects, Increased Access to Modern Energy (NDF C7), has recently been completed and NDF is in the process of assessing the final results and lessons learned. The specific objectives of  the NDF component were  to  reduce  deforestation,  promote  community  based sustainable wood fuel production and market management systems,  and  increase access  to and diversified choice of renewable and cleaner fuels.

The NDF grant will contribute to climate change mitigation by supporting sustainable use of forestry resources including measures to reduce deforestation by strengthening community-based sustainable wood fuel production and market management systems.
