Challenges and plans for future transport in Africa
NDF highlights climate change and transport at Africa Transport Forum 2015
The first African Development Bank Transport Forum takes place on November 26-27, 2015 at the headquarters of the African Development Bank, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, under the theme “Sustainable Transport for an Integrated Africa.”
The Nordic Development Fund (NDF) was invited by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to be part of the plenary panel on Transport for Green and Inclusive Growth. NDF presented the challenges of climate impacts on road transport infrastructure and highlighted some of the adaptation alternatives that provide resilience to the broadest possible range of forecast climate changes.
NDF, together with the AfDB, supports two projects on transport and climate change adaptation. In Mozambique, NDF supports transport and adaptation under the AfDB Nacala Road Corridor III project, while in Rwanda NDF co-finances a climate component under the AfDB transport sector project: Upgrading of Base-Gicumbi-Rukomo-Nyagatare Road.
The Africa Transport Forum is a key event to share best practices and experiences, promote research and development, and stimulate continental business and professional networking. It brings together high-level government representatives, experts, development partners, international organisations, the private sector, academia, NGOs and other selected stakeholders.
