Circular economy: A holistic approach to address climate change

12.10.2023

Circular economy has the power to bring sustainable solutions, shrink global greenhouse emissions and stop biodiversity loss. We have now published a thematic brief on NDF’s work and how we advance circular economy solutions.

Circular economy is an economic model closely connected to climate change adaptation and mitigation, the main strategic focus areas of NDF. We support the circular economy agenda through our projects in least developed countries and countries in fragile situations.

Circular economy provides some of the most effective tools to stop biodiversity loss by tackling the root causes and getting more value from what we have. 90% of biodiversity loss is caused by the way we extract and process materials, fuels and food.

NDF has financed projects that support circular economy with up to EUR 43.5 million in grants and equity. Additionally, we have committed EUR 12.6 million to circular economy projects through EEP Africa and the Nordic Climate Facility.

We are committed to continue working with our partners and finding circular economy solutions for climate action.
