Getting ready for the Green Climate Fund

More than 100 representatives from different governmental institutions, universities, civil society, indigenous organizations, international entities and private enterprises took part in a national workshop in Tegucigalpa in Honduras last week, to learn more about the accreditation process and the priorities of the Green Climate Fund. 

The Minister of Energy, Natural Resources, Environment and Mines, Mr. José Antonio Galdames, opened the event and said that Climate Change is a matter of vital importance for Honduras because it affects both the basic food security and most sectors in the economy. He furthermore stressed the need for taking action related to both the mitigation of and adaptation to Climate Change.

The workshop forms part of the joint Inter-American Development Bank and Nordic Development Fund initiative: Green Climate Fund Readiness Support for Central America and Bolivia Project. The initiative is led by the Inter-American Development Bank and similar activities are being carried out in Bolivia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama. Several of these countries have now identified a pipeline of projects and work is ongoing to prepare profiles according to the requirements of the Green Climate Fund. At present, the Green Climate Fund has approved financing to seven climate projects in Latin America and four of these will be administered by the Inter-American Development Bank.
