NDF Supports Climate Resilient Development in Zambia
NDF signed a new grant agreement with the Government of Zambia to strengthen climate resilience in the rural water sector.
Under the agreement, NDF committed EUR 2.25 million over the next three years to support the development, field testing and integration of climate resilient planning and tools in rural water supply and sanitation in Zambia’s Western Province. The agreement brings overall commitments by NDF to Zambia to just over EUR 30 million in credits and grants since 1997.
The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing with lead financing from the African Development Bank under the umbrella of the National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Programme Phase II.
The aim is to improve access to reliable and climate resilient water and sanitation services in four districts in the Western Province. Results will then be integrated into water sector planning at a national level.
The signing of the agreement is especially timely as it takes place at the same time as the 2015 COP21 Climate Conference in Paris where climate resilience is high on the agenda.
