19.05.2021

The two-year individual consultancy position is supported by the NDF, and familiarity with and knowledge about build-back-better and greener approaches will be considered an advantage

Deadline: 11.06.2021

The African Water Facility (AWF) in the African Development Bank (AfDB) has collaborated with the Government of Denmark and the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) to develop a 5 years (2021-2025) programme to contribute to combating the impacts of COVID-19 in Africa through water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and integrated water and resource management (IWRM) measures. The programme targets poor and internally displaced communities in urban and rural settings in fragile regions of the continent. The five beneficiary countries are: Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Somalia. Up to 15 projects are expected to be implemented under the programme, and will have elements of emergency support to augment existing water supply and sanitation services, as well as the preparation of bankable climate resilient WASH projects to catalyze the flow of investments to the WASH sector in the five countries.

The WRM Consultant/Technical Advisor will provide technical guidance and management support to ensure the soundness and climate-resilience of WASH measures implemented under the Programme including support for the following: project identification, design and implementation activities; capacity building of AWF and country staff; and, regular reporting on the Programme to the Bank and to donors.

The programme will combat COVID-19 and strengthen the recovery through investments in water supply, sanitation, and water resources management activities in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa. The programme delivery will use a build-back-better and green, climate-resilient approach to target particularly poor, vulnerable and unserved urban communities displaced from the countryside by insecurity, famine and climate/environmental disasters.
