Selection process
We select projects and investments based on criteria and principles derived from our Mandate and Strategy. Following the co-financing model, we often identify projects and programs through strategic partners and lead investors.
The majority of our activities are financed through financing operations in collaboration with other multilateral financing institutions. Our financing is not based on applications. We develop project ideas and financing structures in priority areas together with our strategic partners such as international financing institutions.
Project identification is followed by a diligent preparation process and in-depth analysis of the proposal.
Strategy alignment
We select projects and investments based on criteria and principles derived from our Mandate and Strategy.
Before a financing decision is made, all projects must be in compliance with all applicable NDF policies, including the Environmental and Social Policy & Guidelines, as well as the Gender Equality Policy. We recognise that adverse environmental and social impacts cannot be avoided in all projects but these risks must be appropriately reduced, mitigated or compensated for. Furthermore, NDF has an exclusion list with activities not eligible for financing.
Decision process
Financing proposals not exceeding EUR 500,000 are subject to approval by NDF Managing Director. All proposals exceeding EUR 500,000 are subject to two considerations by the NDF Board of Directors.
In projects that we co-finance, goods and services are produced based on international competitive bidding.
